runDisney Peter Pan Costume Idea

I was just thinking about costumes I would like to do if I ever did another run Disney event, and I was thinking even though Peter Pan is a boy, he could make a really fun costume for a girl. And what is better than the song, "You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!" as inspiration for a race? So here is a simplistic take on a Peter Pan costume.

1. I love this Think of the Happiest Thoughts Tee for the race. Find it here.
2. Isn't this Peter Pan bow precious? Find it here.
3. I think this cute earrings would be a nice addition for the costume. Find it here.
4. These are just some running shoes, that would match the Peter Pan outfit. Find it here.
5. This running skirt is so perfect! I can't get over it. Find it here.

Preparing for Documenting our Disney Trip

I am a big memory keeper, and this year I'm doing project life. (You can read about that here if you don't know what that is). But I'm planning to do a whole separate album to document our trip, and I have big plans for it. I decided to make a page about the decision of why we are going to Disney (The half marathon). You should be able to click the images to enlarge them a bit.

For this page, I mainly used the Princess themed cards from Becky Higgins Official Project Life products. I really liked using the once upon a time prompt to share a small bit of Jana and I's running journey (I wrote about it as you would tell a fairytale story). I also included our picture from out first ever completed race (Can't wait for our next after race shot after the half)! I snagged the Princess Half Marathon Medal Pictures and Logo from doing a google search. Lastly, I took a screen shot of my confirmation e-mail I received after signing up for the race!

Before I even share anything about my planning page that I made for the album (which is my favorite by the way), I will point out that I am aware I spelled "recieve" wrong, I know it is receive. And as soon as I popped the card in the album, I became acutely aware of this mistake! But photoshop does not have spell check, and spelling was never my strongest subject. But since I'm am embracing imperfection this year, I am just leaving it for now. Unless it really starts to bug me, and I have to reprint it, but I'd rather not pay for the print 2x, even if it crazy cheap.

I wanted to document the planning process because I really believe what the quote says on this scrapbook page, "A huge part of the fun is anticipating the trip!"  And Jana and I should know because we text about the trip and what we want to do nearly everyday!

For this page, I used the super cute Project Mouse Planning Kit. I plan on using so many of her kits for scrapbooking my whole Disney album. I included a list of our dining reservations, to-do list, and our general schedule. I also liked the "step 1 booked" card, as it allowed me to document when we actually booked our trip! Can't believe that was back in August!

And this is the album I am using for all my Disney scrap booking. Adam (my husband) got me this gift for Christmas, it is an album that is just like the one Carl and Ellie had in the movie Up! How perfect is that?

run Disney Costume Ideas: Princess Mulan

For these costumes, I'm always trying to come up with characters that maybe are not as popular at run Disney events. And I think Mulan is one of the least popular princesses, although she shouldn't be, because she is the epitome of girl power & bravery. But she would be such a good choice for a race, simply because she is so strong and dedicated.

1. Believe in Yourself Tank & Matching Tutu
I think this is an awesome race day ensemble. You can purchase these pieces separately or together via this etsy seller.

2.  Earrings
Aren't these absolutely precious earrings, I would wear these even if I wasn't racing! Find them here.

3. Bracelet
This bracelet features one the best lines from the movie it reads, "The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." Find it here.

4. Ribbon People Head Band
I love, love, love these headbands this seller makes. In fact, both Jana and I bought one (featuring Belle and Ariel) for our upcoming races. You can find this Mulan one here.

Brittany

runDisney costume idea: Mary Poppins

I've had a couple of sick days this week and what is better to do when you're sick than check out some Disney movies? My niece and soon to be nephew-in-law gave me Mary Poppins for Christmas, and I was so excited to break that out. Which of course gave me inspiration for today's costume.

1. For Every Race that Must be Run Shirt
I actually designed this shirt on my own at Customink.  I just wanted to show everyone that if you can't find anything you like, you can make your own. I love the little phrase I came up with as well, "With every race that must be run, there is an element of fun."

2. White Shirt
If you didn't feel like designing your own top, this pretty white shirt with the Peter Pan collar is very Mary Poppinish.

3.Mary Poppins Hat
If you get some really good clips this hat would be such a great addition to the costume.

4. Spoonful of Sugar Necklace
I love this spoon and sugar cube necklace. So perfect!

5. Headband
If you don't like the idea of wearing a hat, this headband would be a great way to keep the hair out of your face, during the run.

6.Magic Band Bow
Since you have to wear a magic band in the parks, you might as well dress it up. I love this Magic Band Bow!

7. Running Sparkle Skirt
I love this Mary Poppins sparkle skirt! It would complete any Mary Poppins race day outfit!

Have a Jolly Holiday,
Brittany

Watch me Go...

For those of you who don't know, I've been battling severe allergies since the beginning of October. Between sneezing, coughing, and feeling bad I have been struggling to get my runs in. That on top of a full plate at work and you get why I've been terrible at posting. I'm still a little under the weather, but I'm done letting that stop me from reaching my goal of completing my first half marathon. I've been getting in about a run or two a week, but they are pretty slow and I've only run about 30 minutes at a time.

Today was the first day I've felt really good in a while, and minus some coughing, I had no other issues. I warmed up around 3:45pm and took off on my first distance run in a while. 5 miles is a lot of mileage as the most I've ever run at one time was my 10K almost a year and a half ago. I expected a really bad time, but I was surprised to see that I'm not as far behind as I thought.

I finished my run and was flagged down by one of the guys who does training for a local gym. He often brings his classes to the track to run and use the equipment. (I am always cheering encouragement at them as I see them go through circuits and they are always cheering on the runners out at the track.) I waved at him and stopped by to see what he wanted. He told me that he had noticed my running form was MUCH better and he wanted to let me know that he could really tell a difference. I smiled and told him I was concerned because my time had slowed down as my form began to change. Apparently that is normal and as long as I keep running, I should be fine. The fact that he stopped me to tell me I was improving really  made me happy. It made me realize that you never know who is watching you. It makes me want to push myself even harder to ensure that I reach my goals in time for my big race. (And I told him about getting ready for the half and he gave me some really good advice on nutrition goals and pacing. :) For free...which is the best thing.)

It's hard to believe that we are only 111 days away from race day! It seems to be passing so quickly! I can remember when we were at 250 days...now we are almost down to double digit days! It will REALLY hit me when we get to single digit days! B and I are so ready and pretty much text non-stop these days about what all we are going to do! I can't wait to get there!

Enjoy your evening,
Jana

run Disney costume idea: Alice in Wonderland

Is Alice considered a Disney Princess? I'm not exactly sure, she certainly does not have Princess breeding judging from the movie. But it just seems she should be a Disney Princess! Maybe I just envision all of the female characters from any of the movies as Disney Princesses. At any rate, she would be a very fun costume for a run Disney race.

This is my take on her:

1. Wouldn't this bow be adorable on race day? Find it here.
2. In love with this, " I Run for the Tea Shirt" top.  Find it here.
3. I love race day bling, and this necklace is perfection. Find it here.
4. For your feet, you will need some matching running shoes. Find these here.
5. There is no tutorial for this, but wouldn't this clock make-up be a unique touch for the costume? The original image is found here.
6. Finally, I love this race tutu. Find it here.

Off to Wonderland,
Brittany

Five Months

  (Except a Half Marathon)

This picture reminds me so much of Jana and myself. I don't know who would be who though, we probably are always alternating between the blind optimism of Buzz and the pure terror of Woody.

Today is officially 5 months till race day. That is just so close, I can't believe it. 5 months to whip ourselves into tip top shape. 5 months to run farther than ever before. I have never gone more than 4 miles in my running career, and I can't imagine running 13.1. But then again, I could have never imagined being able to run a 5k either, and now I have run several. So I'm sure in a few months, I will be able to check half marathon off my bucket list.

Sometimes I am overcome with fear about this race. Fear that I will get swept by the balloon ladies, fear that I won't be able to finish, and fear that I will never be that runner that I really want to be. But I know all this fear will just make the accomplishment so much sweeter.

For the most part, I believe in myself, and I believe in us. I just know we are going to have the best RACE-CATION ever. I can't wait till September 30th, so we can start the official training. And I can't wait to continue to countdown the months, weeks, and days till race day.

I just know this event will be epic for the both of us.

runDisney costume ideas: Pocahontas

In the words of Princess Pocahontas herself, I learned things I never knew, I never knew when curating this run Disney outfit. Like how the heck to spell Pocahontas, that took me a billion google searches before I finally remembered how to spell it right the first time. You learn something new everyday I suppose.

We've been trying to do a mixture of uber popular Disney characters and less popular characters in these outfit posts. And while I see a million Belles, Annas, & Elsas, I haven't run across too many Pocahontas running outfits, so I thought I would do one. I hope you like it!

1. I am head over heels for this "Run like your Running the Hidden Pine Trails of the Forest," T-shirt. Find it HERE.

2. This skirt makes a perfect running skirt. Find it HERE.

3. These necklace and earrings are a great replica of the ones Pocahontas wears! Find it HERE.

4. I think this headband would add a great princess touch to the running ensemble. Find it HERE.

5. What a pretty phone case to show off while you take pictures on race day. Find this one HERE.

6. I found the cutest Pocahontas shoes while I was working on this post, but they were so unsuitable to run in. But I think these sneakers would do. Find it HERE.

Off to Paint with All the Colors of the Wind,

runDisney Costume Ideas: Dumbo the Flying Elephant

I'm currently reading The Animated Man, which is a biography of Walt Disney. I've just now gotten to the point in the book where they are talking about the making of Dumbo! I actually just recently bought the bluray of Dumbo, but I haven't watched it yet. And I don't even remember the last time I did watch it! But just reading about the making of Dumbo got me so excited to watch it, and I wanted to put together a little Dumbo costume. How cute would it be to dress as Dumbo? Especially for someone doing the Dumbo Double Dare, which is one of my future goals:

So here is my take on that loveable elephant:

1. This cute little shirt would be adorable for the race. You can also customize it in many different ways. Find it HERE.

2. Many Disney runners like to take props with them for when they pose with characters. Wouldn't it be fun to carry a little Dumbo. Find it HERE.

3. I love this little hat. I think it is perfect for the circus theme that is in the movie. Find it HERE.

4. I love, love this sparkle skirt. So incredibly perfect. Find it HERE.

5. Of course, you need a coordinating pair of running shoes. Find these HERE.

Off to the Circus,
Brittany

runDisney Costume Ideas: Russell from Up!

It has been a little bit since we posted some Disney running costume ideas. So today I'm coming at you with the simple but charming Russell from Up! One of my favorite movies! I think this costume would be excellent because it has a lot of wardrobe basics that you might already have in your closet.

1. The most important part of the ensemble is the sash! This sash even includes a grade soda pin and wilderness explorer badge. Find it here!

2. If you don't have a yellow ball cap you can get one here.

3. Find a yellow polo top here.

4. A nice orange neck scarf will certainly make you look more like Russell. Find it here.

5. These comfortable looking khaki shorts can be found here.

How I Am Planning Our Disney Trip

We are a little under 6 months away from the Princess Half Marathon and our Disney world vacation now, and I am so stupid happy about it all. Jana and I text back and forth non-stop about all the little things we are looking forward to doing. I really think this trip is going to be epic.

One of my favorite things about traveling is planning the "perfect" trip. There is soooo much information out there about Disney world that I am really enjoying sorting through. I thought I would share a little bit about my trip planning process here. Maybe it will only be fun for me and not fun for y'all at all! But it is our blog, so I can do what I want! So there (just kidding).

1. Reading a Guidebook
My first step in planning a major trip is buying a guide book from an actual book store! Yes, it might be a little old fashioned in the internet and digital age, but there is nothing like having that book in my hands. This book is 700+ pages long, and other than skipping a section here and there on parks we are not going to, I read the whole thing.

2. Podcasts! Podcasts! Podcasts!
There are so many Disney loving podcasters out there that I am listening to weekly. My favorite is definitely WDW Happy Place (a married couple who talk all things Disney, they even mentioned me on their 9-2-14 podcast), Capturing Magic (about documenting your trip), and Disney Dream Girls (to hear about all their Disney Shenanigans from two seriously funny British ladies).

I actually learned about touring plans from my guidebook. Basically, touringplans is team who have scientifically studied the crowds and line formations at the Disney and Universal parks. For a small fee, you can plug in everything you want to do in each park, plus your reservations and fast passes, and it makes a schedule for you that will minimize waiting and walking time. I can't wait to try it, so many people speak so highly of it!

4. WDW Tools
One of the main things we want to do at Disney is eat at the newish Be Our Guest restaurant. But the reservations are super hard to get! So even though I got up at 4:45 a.m., 180 days in advanced of when we will be eating at the restaurant, as you are supposed to, the reservations for 4 were all gone. I was so devastated! But somewhere I heard about WDW tools. WDW tools is a website that watches for reservations for you (for ten dollars), and it texts you as soon as one becomes available, so you can snag it! With the help of this feature, I was able to snag the reservation for 4!! I'm so excited. This site is soooo good. It has actually found 4 reservations for me this week at Be Our Guest (although I only used one). I highly, highly recommend trying it if you are struggling to get a reservation.

5. Tripadvisor
I use tripadvisor for planning all my trips, even small weekend ones. I have been using it this trip to look at reviews for restaurants to see where we want to eat.  Not only can you read reviews, you can look at pictures of the restaurant. Although after looking at some pictures of Be Our Guest, I had to stop, because not only was I getting too excited, I didn't want to ruin it for myself!

If you have any trip planning advice, I am so open to suggestions!

Run Disney: Ursula Costume Idea

I keep thinking how cool it would be if Disney put on a Villains themed race. I know, I know, I have yet to even compete in my first Disney race, and I am thinking of future races! But I bet if the Princess race is successful, I will soon get addicted and have to start planning my next race.

Even without a Villains themed race, Ursula would be a great outfit for any Disney race! Especially the Tower of Terror 10 miler! There are very few villains more scary than Ursula! They weren't kidding when they called her, well a witch.

Here is my take on her for race day:

1. This awesome I've Been Bad shirt. Found HERE.

2.  This Ursula Themed Race Day Tutu. Found HERE.

3. You can have your very own replica of the necklace used to capture Ariel's voice! Found HERE.

4. These faux, gauge earrings are very suitable for an Ursula costume. Found HERE.

5. This bow is a nice nod to Ursula's stint as Vanessa in order to woe Prince Eric away from Ariel. Found HERE.

6. And of course, a nice pair of purple running shoes to complete the ensemble. Found HERE.

There you have it my Poor, Unfortunate Souls,
Brittany

It's TIME!!!!!!!!!!

One more day and we are OFFICIALLY 6 months out from our trip! I cannot even fathom that we are THAT close! We are booking the trip today and I can't wait! Not only do I get to run a race in the Happiest Place on Earth, but I get to do it with my best friends and boyfriend...on my birthday week! I am so excited!

We are planning on doing a week long trip because how often do you get to do Disney? And honestly, only spending a few days there wasn't going to cut it. I'm really excited about doing the parks, but I think Be Our Guest on my birthday is going to take the cake! I can't wait for us to get this trip fully booked and know that we have everything reserved! I'm jumping up and down inside just thinking about it!

I know the camaraderie is going to be amazing in the park and it's going to be so exciting to see everyone's costumes! If you are racing, let us know and maybe we can do a fun blog meetup for the race! :)

Wishing you all the best of luck,
Jana

Elsa and Anna RunDisney Costume Ideas!

One thing I have loved about training for this half is getting to check out all of the amazing costume ideas that I can choose from. Had you asked me 2 years ago to do a race and dress up to do it, I'd have laughed in your face. The thought of even doing 13 miles in a single day would have had me rolling on the floor. Now, I feel completely different. I'm hoping that I finish in adequate time!

This week I decided to tackle Elsa and Anna. Being the newest Disney Princesses, it seemed only right that we give them an opportunity to take the floor. Plus I get to do double, which is a plus! :)

How adorable is this Anna inspired sparkle skirt? Find it here
And what about this Elsa inspired one? Cuteness overload! Get it here

I love this Anna inspired tank top. "Do You Want to Run a Half Marathon?" Find it here
I'm also loving this Elsa tank! If only it came in adult sizes. Get it here

Anna is always so fresh in this necklace! Check it out here
A girl has GOT to have accessories! I am loving this Elsa inspired necklace! Find it here

A girl has GOT to have running shoes to finish the big race! I love these! Even though they say they are Cinderella inspired, I think they would work for Frozen as well!

Lastly, you have to have the right hair accessories to keep your hair out of your face on a good run. I really like this one that doubles for both Elsa and Anna. :)

Hope this inspires you to get out here and make your dreams come true!
Always,
Jana

B's Top Ten Plans for the Disney Vacation

Ok everyone, we are about 6 months out from Jana and mine's Disney vacation. To say we are excited would be a huge understatement! We talk about it at least once everyday, and I am listening to about a million trillion podcasts on Disney world (my favorites are Disney Dream Girls & WDW Happy Place by the way).  I thought it might me fun to do a top ten list of what I'm most looking forward to doing (outside of the half marathon of course):

1. Be Our Guest Restaurant
This is my absolute ONLY must do for Disney! I have made no secret that my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. Now they have a whole restaurant based off the movie. You can even order the grey stuff (like the song). If I don't get to do this, I will be crushed. I plan on getting up early the day you can begin booking the reservations, just to be certain.

2. Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios
I have wanted to ride this ride since I first saw it on a travel channel special years ago! I think it will scare the pants off me, being as it is a free fall ride. But I love, love, love a good thrill ride.  So bring it on Disney.

3. Dole Whip
Ok, so post weight loss surgery I eat almost zero sweets (maybe some frozen yogurt from time to time). But all the people on my podcasts rave about the dole whip. So I'm thinking even if I can only have a bite or two, I just have to try it.

4. Meet Anna & Elsa
This comes with the caveat that we only do this with the Fast Pass, because come on, I really want to meet these two. But I do not want to spend three hours in line with screaming children. But I do, I do just love Frozen.

5. Epcot World Showcase
When I was younger, I had some kind of Barbie VHS tape where Barbie went to Disneyworld (or some other such nonsense). I remember being really blown away by how cool the world showcase looked in the movie. I guess I had the travel bug even as a little girl.  So I'm excited to check out all the countries, and maybe even do a little drinking around the world?

6. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ride
This is one of the newer rides in Disneyworld, and it sounds so fun!  We will get to ride in little mine cars and be immersed in the world of the Seven Dwarfs. Rockin'.

7.  The First Time Seeing the Castle
I have seen Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Disneyland, and that was really such an exciting moment. I think seeing Cinderella's castle for the first time will be even more thrilling! That will mean the trip has begun!

8. Parade
I feel like this one is kind of self-explanatory. Floats! Characters! Bands! Mickey! Need I say more?

9. Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid Ride
This one goes out to my homegirl, Jana! Since her favorite movie is The Little Mermaid. But who wouldn't want to ride in a clam shell and go Under the Sea (Probably my husband, but he is going anyway!).

10. Firework Show
I love a regular hometown Firework show, so I'm guessing a Disneyworld firework show has to be epic right? Well, I guess we will see!

I just can't wait y'all, I just can't wait,
Brittany

Run Disney: Maleficent Costume Idea

I really enjoyed the movie Maleficent that came out a few months ago. I love when there is any kind of retelling of classic fairy-tales!  That is why I also love the play Wicked so much. I think Maleficent would be fun for a Run Disney event. Who doesn't like to pretend they are a little evil from time to time? MWHAHAHA (that is an evil laugh, in case you didn't pick up on it)!

So here is my take on Maleficent:

1. I love this Maleficent themed glitter running skirt with fire embellishments. Find it HERE.
2. Just say yes to Maleficent themed running ears! Find it HERE.
3. This purple and black feather necklace would be a great way to imitate Maleficent's Cape. Find it HERE.
4. If the feathers are too much, you might want to try this sleeping potion necklace complete with the spinning needle of doom. Find it HERE.
5. You know you are going to want to take a ton of pictures race day, most likely with your phone, so you might as well have a phone case that compliments your outfit. Find it HERE.
6. Last but not least,  some great purple and green running shoes, so your feet can match your ensemble! Find it HERE.

J and B's Runiversary

July 29, 2014 was mine and B's 2 year runiversary. It seems so surreal looking back over that amount of time and how far we have come. I didn't even realize it until August 1 and of course I had to send her a message to let her know we had missed it. She and I both agreed that it would make for a good blog post, so here we are. :)

I know we post a lot about our running and how far we've come. I just want to say, I'm so proud of B! She had a 14 minute mile the other day! And not just 1, but 3 of them! When we started this journey I know I could barely do a 20 minute mile. The fact that we are up to 14 minute miles speaks volumes about our journey and we are hoping to only get faster the longer we practice.

Instead of writing all about our journey, I want to share a few pictures instead. Please bear with me as this will be a photo heavy post. :)

These were taken after we finished our very FIRST 5K in September of 2012. We finished in under an hour and we were the last two to finish, but we finished! So blessed I had this girl in my corner.

Fun times at our very first foam race! As you can see, we enjoyed the face painting. :)

Of course I had to throw in a few college throw back pictures. :) As you can see, we had a lot of fun.
When Brit and I started our running journeys, we inspired several others to join us for the Color Run in Jackson, MS. As you can see, it was a blast!

Our very 1st 10K in Auburn, AL (War Damn Eagle!)

Random pics from Days Gone By!

I'm so looking forward to many more adventures with this girl and I can't wait until we get to post all about our experience at the Disney Princess Half Marathon! :D

Until Later,
Jana

Run Disney: Buzz Lightyear Costume Idea

I figured it was about time that we added a little Pixar into the run Disney costume idea bucket. And what better character to start with than Mr. Buzz Lightyear? Arguably, he is the character with the most combined cluelessness and charm of all time. Yes, Buzz is a boy, but why couldn't a girl rock his look?

Here is our take on Buzz:

1. As always, I feel you need a good tutu to rock out at a Disney Race. Find this tutu HERE.
2. I think I would wear these socks even if they weren't for the race. Find the socks HERE.
3. Wouldn't these fishnet gloves be really fun at the Princess? I bet they would glow in the early morning hours! Find these gloves HERE.
4. Let us ignore that this is a boy in the t-shirt. A girl could pull off this shirt perfectly. Find it HERE.
5. This green headband will keep all that hair out of your face. Find it HERE.

To infinity and beyond,
Brittany

Run Disney: Snow White Costume Ideas

As B has said in several other posts, we are Disneyaholics. Anything and everything Disney makes us happy and I can remember watching Disney movies during our college days and wondering when our Prince Charming's would be coming to sweep us off our feet.

Today I wanted to share my take on my favorite costume ideas for Snow White...complete with the 7 Dwarfs. :D

1. If you have large boobs, this will make you giggle. This shirt that says "How Bout These Apples?" makes me smile every time. Find this epic shirt here

2. What Disney running costume wouldn't be complete without an ADORABLE tutu to match your princess? This one is perfection! :) Find it here

3. You can't forget those 7 adorable Dwarfs that helped keep Snow in check! This necklace is so precious! Find it here. Of course we also know Snow is known for the infamous apple, so that necklace is here

4. While scouring for a cute bow to wear, I came across these precious Snow White themed Minnie Mouse ears! What better thing to wear while in Disney? Check it out here

5. Lastly, every princess needs a pair of good shoes! I'm totally in love with these

Disney Run Costumes: Lilo

Oh, how I love Lilo & Stitch. I have been making a point recently of collecting the Disney movies on Blu-Ray and re-watching them! The other day we had a movie day at our Summer Camp at work, and I brought in Lilo & Stitch. The kids just loved it, and they just wanted to watch it again and again. It warmed this Disneyphile's heart.

So how could my next costume idea NOT be from that movie? By the way, if someone will get me a pet alien ala Stitch, you will be my friend FOREVER.

Here is my take on Lilo for race day:

1.  This GORGEOUS TUTU would be perfect for race day. Find it here.
2. This simple white active top would off-set the loudness of the tutu, and it would help show case the necklace. Find it Here.
3. O'hana Necklace can be Found Here.
4. This Floral Crown Might Need some Bobby Pins to Stay On During The Race, but it would be well worth it. Find It Here.
5. Red and Blue Running Shoes. Find it Here.

O'hana means family y'all,
Brittany
